வெள்ளை ஈயின் தாக்கமும் மைற்றா கட்டுப்பாடும்

கடந்த வருடம் ஏப்ரல் 28 அன்று நாம் இட்ட பதிவில் வெள்ளை ஈ தாக்கம் கட்டுப்பாட்டுக்குள் வந்துகொண்டிருப்பதாகவும் 14 நாட்களின் பின்னர் மீண்டும் வேர்ட்டிசீலியம் லக்கானி விசிறும் (Booster) போது இத்தாக்கம் பூரணமாகக் கட்டுப்படுத்தப்படும் என எதிர்பார்ப்பதாகவும் கூறியிருந்தோம்.
CSJ Agri அலுவலக வளாகத்தில் உள்ள 3 தென்னை மரங்களுக்குப் பரவியிருந்த வெள்ளை ஈ யின் தாக்கத்தை கட்டுப்படுத்தும் நோக்கில் முதன் முதலில் 17/04/2024 அன்று வேர்ட்டிசீலியம் லக்கானி எனும் உயிர் உரம் விசிறப்பட்டது.
11 நாட்களின் பின்னர் (28 ஏப்ரல்) காலை மற்றும் மாலை வேளையில் தென்னை ஓலைகளை அவதானித்த போது இதன் தாக்கம் 75% கட்டுப்பாட்டுக்குள் வந்திருந்தது. மரத்தை சுற்றி ஈக்கள் பறப்பதும், வெகு கணிசமாக குறைந்திருந்தது.
ஓலைகளின் அடிப்பகுதியில் உள்ள வெள்ளை ஈக்கள் மற்றும் அவற்றின் இளம் ஈக்கள் அழிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தன.
ஓலைகளின் மேலே வழக்கமாக படிந்துள்ள கருப்பு நிறப்படலமும், ஈக்களால் உறிஞ்சப்படும் மேலதிக சாறும் தொடர்ந்து படியாததால், அவை உரிந்து அகன்று வந்தது.
ஆயினும் ஆங்காங்கே சில முதிர்ந்த ஈக்களும், சில இடங்களில் சுருள் வடிவ முட்டைகளும் அவதானிக்கப்பட்டது.
மே மாதம் 5ம் திகதியன்று இரண்டாவது தெளிப்பு (Booster) மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டதன் பின்னர் வெள்ளை ஈ முற்றாக கட்டுப்பாட்டுக்குள் வந்துள்ளது.
படங்கள் 1, 2 இல் எமது அலுவலக வளாகத்தில் ஆரோக்கியமாக உள்ள உள்ள மரங்களையும், படம் 3 இல் அயல் வளாகத்தில் இன்னமும் இந்த நோயினால் தாக்கமுற்ற மரங்கள் நிற்பதனையும் மற்றும் அயல் வளாகத்தில் உள்ள ஒரு மரம் செவ்வண்டின் தாக்கத்தால் முற்றாக அழிவடைந்துள்ளதையும் அவதானிக்கலாம்.
எமது அலுவலக வளாக மரங்களுக்கு 3 மாதங்களுக்கு ஒருமுறை செவ்வண்டுகளை கட்டுப்படுத்த மெட்டாரைசியம் குருத்தினூடாக கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. தண்டு வளர்ச்சி முற்றும் (mature) வரை இந்த சிகிச்சை அவசியம்.
அதேபோல் வெள்ளை ஈயிற்கு முதல் இருமுறை 14 நாள் இடைவெளியில் செய்யப்பட்ட சிகிச்சைக்குபின்னர் ஒவ்வொரு 3 மாத இடைவெளியில் ஒருமுறை விசிறினால் போதுமானது.
வெள்ளை ஈ கட்டுப்பாட்டுக்கு விசிறிய வேர்ட்டிசீலியம் லக்கானியின் மேலதிக நன்மையாக மரங்களில் பறிக்கப்படும் தேங்காய்கள் மைற்றா தாக்கமின்றி காணப்படுவது ஓர் முக்கிய சிறப்பம்சமாகும்.

Whitefly Infestation and Mite Control

In the post we made on April 28 last year, we mentioned that the whitefly infestation was coming under control, and that after 14 days, when the second spray (booster) of Verticillium lecanii was applied, the infestation was expected to be fully controlled.
On 17/04/2024, as a first step to control the whitefly attack that had spread to three coconut trees within the CSJ Agri office premises, Verticillium lecanii bio-fertilizer was sprayed.
After 11 days (on April 28), when the coconut fronds were observed in the morning and evening, the attack had come under 75% control. The flies swarming around the trees had also decreased significantly.
The whiteflies and their nymphs found underneath the fronds had been destroyed.
The black coating that usually formed on the upper side of the fronds, along with the excess sap sucked out by the flies, had stopped accumulating and had begun to peel off.
However, here and there, some mature flies and a few coiled egg clusters were still observed.
On May 5th, after the second spraying (booster), the whitefly infestation was completely brought under control.
In images 1 and 2, you can see the healthy trees in our office premises.
In image 3, you can notice the trees in the neighboring premises still affected by this pest, and also one tree in the neighboring area that has been completely destroyed by red weevil infestation.
In our office premises, Metarhizium fungus is applied through the stem every three months to control red weevils. This treatment is necessary until the tree trunk becomes fully mature.
Similarly, for whitefly control, after the first two sprays with a 14-day interval, one spray every three months is sufficient.
An additional benefit of spraying Verticillium lecanii for whitefly control is that the coconuts harvested from the trees are found to be free from mite infestations — which is a remarkable advantage.
