சிகிரியா நீரூற்று அமைப்பின் புதிய தகவல்
சமீபத்தில் சிகிரியாவில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட பராமரிப்பு பணிகளின் போது, அங்கிருந்த பண்டைய நீரூற்று அமைப்பைச் சார்ந்த புதிய தகவல்கள் கண்டறியப்பட்டுள்ளதாக மத்திய கலாசார நிதியத்தின் (CCF) பணிப்பாளர் நாயகம் நிலன் குரே தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
சிகிரியா நீரூற்றுகள் வழக்கமாக ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் மழைக்காலத்தில் செயல்படும். ஆனால் கடந்த ஆண்டின் இறுதியில் அவை இயங்கவில்லை.
முதலில், அடிநிலைக் குழாய்கள் சேற்றால் அடைப்பு ஏற்பட்டிருக்கலாம் என கருதப்பட்டதாகவும் அவர் கூறினார். இதனை புனரமைக்கும் நோக்கில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட சுத்திகரிப்பு மற்றும் பராமரிப்பு பணிகளின் போது, சிகிரியாவைச் சுற்றியுள்ள அகழி (moat), நீரூற்றுகளுக்கு முக்கிய ஆதாரமாக இருப்பது உறுதிசெய்யப்பட்டது.
அத்துடன் மழைக்காலத்தில் அகழி நிரம்பியவுடன், அதிலிருந்து நீர் நீரூற்றுகளுக்கு செல்லும் முறையில் இயங்குவதாகவும் அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.
“காலம் முழுவதும் சிகிரியா நீரூற்றுகள் எவ்வாறு செயல்பட்டன என்பதற்கு பல்வேறு கணிப்புகள் மட்டுமே இருந்தன.
ஆனால் இம்முறை மேற்கொண்ட பணிகளால், அவற்றின் செயல்முறையை நிச்சயமாக உறுதிப்படுத்த முடிந்துள்ளது,” எனவும் மத்திய கலாசார நிதியத்தின் (CCF) பணிப்பாளர் நாயகம் நிலன் குரே தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

New Findings About Sigiriya Fountain System
During recent maintenance work carried out at Sigiriya, new details regarding the ancient fountain system have been uncovered, according to the Director General of the Central Cultural Fund (CCF), Nilan Cooray.
The Sigiriya fountains usually operate every year during the monsoon season. However, they did not function at the end of last year.
“At first, it was assumed that the underground pipelines might have been blocked by silt,” he explained. But during the cleaning and restoration process, it was confirmed that the surrounding moat of Sigiriya acts as the main source of water for the fountains.
He further stated that once the moat fills up during the rainy season, the water flows from there into the fountains, enabling them to function.
“For a long time, there were only various speculations about how the Sigiriya fountains actually worked. But with the recent restoration efforts, we have been able to confirm their exact operating mechanism,” said Nilan Cooray, Director General of the CCF.
