ஒரு ஆள் சந்தைக்குச் சென்று ஒரு ஆட்டுக்குட்டியை வாங்கிக்கொண்டு வந்தார். அது சின்னதாக இருந்த காரணத்தால் இரக்கப்பட்டு தோளில் தூக்கிச் சுமந்துகொண்டே வந்தார். அவருடைய கிராமம் இன்னும் தூரத்தில் இருந்தது.

அந்த ஆள் ஒரு அப்பாவிபோல் இருந்ததால் வழியில் பார்த்த நான்கு குடிகாரர்களுக்கு அந்த ஆட்டுக்குட்டியை ஏமாற்றிப் பறித்து விருந்துண்ண ஆசை ஏற்பட்டது.

அவர் போன பாதையிலேயே வேறு வழியில் முன்னால்போய் நால்வரும் தனித்தனியே கொஞ்சதூரம் இடைவெளி விட்டு வழியில் காத்திருந்தனர்.

அவர் பக்கம் வந்தவுடன் முதலாமவன் “ஏய் எதுக்காக ஒரு கழுதைக் கட்டியைச் சுமந்து செல்கிறாய்?” என்று கேட்டான். இவர் ஏமாறவில்லை. அவன் ஏதோ கேலி செய்கிறான் என்று சொல்லி சண்டை செய்யாமல் போனார்.

கொஞ்ச தூரம் போனவுடன் இரண்டாமவன் எதிரில் வந்து, “என்னப்பா எதுக்கு ஒரு பண்ணியைச் சுமந்துட்டுப்போறே?” என்று சொல்லிச் சிரித்தான். இவருக்கு என்னமோ போல் ஆகிவிட்டது.

மேலும் கொஞ்சதூரம் போனவுடன் மூன்றாமவன் எதிரில் வந்து, “அட என்னப்பா செத்த பாம்ப இப்படியா? கழுத்துல சுத்திட்டுப் போவாங்க?” என்றான். இவருக்கு உண்மையாகவே சந்தேகம் வந்துவிட்டது. “என்ன இப்படி ஒவ்வொருத்தனும் ஒரு மாதிரியா சொல்லிட்டுப் போறான், நாம்ம வாங்குனது ஆட்டுக்குட்டிதானா? அல்லது வேறெதாவது கிரகமா?” என்று மிரண்டவனாய் நடந்தார்.

நான்காமவனும் எதிரில் வந்து “ஏப்பா தனியா ஒரு பொணத்தத் தூக்கிட்டுப்போறே” அப்படின்னு கேட்டான். அவ்வளவுதான் இவனுக்கு சந்தேகம் உறுதியாகிவிட்டது, “நம்ம ஏதோ ஒரு குட்டிச் சாத்தன ஆட்டுக்குட்டின்னு நெனைச்சு ஏமாந்து வாங்கிட்டு வந்துட்டோம்! தூ கிரகம்!” என்று சொல்லி அந்த ஆட்டுக்குட்டியைத் தூக்கிப் புதரில் எறிந்துவிட்டு ஓட்டம் பிடித்தார்.

சிறிது நேரத்தில் ஆட்டு குட்டி அந்தக் குடிகாரர்கள் நால்வருக்கும் உணவாயிற்று!.

நீதி: நாம் ஏமாளியாக இருந்தால் மற்றவர்கள் நம்மை எமாற்றுவது மிக எளிது.

The Fool

A man once went to the market and bought a little goat. Feeling pity for the small creature, he decided to carry it on his shoulders as he walked back to his village, which was still quite far away.

Since the man looked innocent and naïve, four drunkards who saw him on the way got the idea to trick him and steal the goat for a feast.

They took a shortcut and waited along the path he was taking, positioning themselves separately at short distances from one another.

As the man walked by, the first drunkard said, “Hey! Why are you carrying a donkey’s leg on your shoulders?” The man didn’t get fooled. He assumed the drunk was just mocking him, so he ignored him and walked on without arguing.

A little further along, the second drunkard stopped him and laughed, “Hey man, why are you carrying a calf like that?” Now the man began to feel a bit confused.

After walking a bit more, the third one came up and said, “Wow! Who carries a dead snake around their neck like that?” By now, the man started to seriously doubt himself. “Why is everyone saying different things? Did I really buy a goat or something else? Is this some cursed creature?” he wondered anxiously.

Finally, the fourth drunkard appeared and said, “Hey! Why are you carrying a girl on your shoulders all alone like that?” That was it! The man became completely convinced he had been tricked into buying something bizarre. In panic and fear, he screamed, “I must have been fooled into buying some cursed creature!” and hurled the goat into a nearby bush before running away.

A short while later, the four drunkards had a hearty feast with that very goat.

Moral: When we lack confidence and are easily deceived, it becomes very easy for others to mislead and mock us.
