The city of Utqiagvik, located in the northern region of Alaska in the United States, has recently witnessed the last sunset of the year. As a result, the city is now entering 65 consecutive days of darkness—a phenomenon known as the Polar Night, according to international media reports.
Utqiagvik, previously known as Barrow, lies nearly 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle, at the northernmost tip of Alaska. On Tuesday (18), the sun set for the final time this year. Following this sunset, the next sunrise in Utqiagvik will occur only on January 22, 2026. Until then, the entire city will remain in continuous darkness.
