நிகழ்காலம் எனும் வைரம்
வியாபாரி ஒருவர். எதிர்காலத்தில் பெரிய தொழிலதிபராக வரவேண்டும் என்று ஆசைப்பட்டார். ஆனால் அவர் சரியாக திட்டமிட்டு செயல்படாததால் பெரும் நஷ்டத்தை சந்திக்க நேரிட்டது. கவலையில் ஆழ்ந்திருந்த அவர், வீட்டுக்குப் போக விரும்பாமல், ஊரை விட்டு ஒதுக்குப்புறமாக இருந்த, தொலைதூர ஆற்றங்கரைக்குச் சென்றார். அங்கே ஆற்றின் மணலில் மெல்லிய நிலவொளியில் அமர்ந்து தன் நினைவுகளை ஓட விட்டான். தொழிலில் நஷ்டம் ஏற்பட்ட துயரம் அவனை வாட்டியது. கூட்டாளிகள் தன்னைக் நம்பவைத்துக் கழுத்தறுத்தார்கள் என்று எண்ணி வேதனையில் மூழ்கினார்.
மறுபுறம், எப்படி வியாபாரம் செய்யப் போகிறோம்… குடும்பத்தை எப்படி நடத்தப் போகிறோம் என எதிர்காலக் கவலைகள் எழுந்தன. இந்தச் சிந்தனையினாலேயே அவனுடைய வலது கை அவனை அறியாமல் ஆற்றின் மணலை துழாவி அவன் கையில் தட்டுப்பட்ட சிறு கற்களை எடுத்து ஆற்றில் வீசியவண்ணம் அவன் அன்றிரவு முழுதும் அங்கேயே அமர்ந்திருந்தான்.
விடியல் தொடங்கியது! வெளிச்சம் பரவியது. ஆற்றில் எறிய கற்கள் தீர்ந்தன. கடைசியாக கையிலிருந்த கல்லைப் பார்த்து வியந்தான். காரணம் – அது சாதாரண கூழாங்கல் அல்ல. வைரம்
கொள்ளையர்கள் தாங்கள் கொள்ளையடித்துச் சென்ற விலைமதிப்பற்ற வைரங்களைத் தவறவிட்டு ஓடியுள்ளனர். அவன் இருட்டில் இன்னதென்று அறியாமல் எடுத்து வீசியிருக்கிறான்.

The diamond of the present
