7.5 ரிக்டர் சக்திவாய்ந்த நிலநடுக்கம்

தென் அமெரிக்காவிற்கு (South America) அண்மையில் 7.5 ரிக்டர் அளவில் சக்தி வாய்ந்த நிலநடுக்கம் ஏற்பட்டதாக அமெரிக்க புவியியல் ஆய்வு மையம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

குறித்த நிலநடுக்கம் இன்று (22) தென் அமெரிக்காவின் தெற்கு முனையையும் அண்டார்டிகாவையும் இணைக்கும் டிரேக் பாசேஜில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

இந்த நிலநடுக்கம் 10.8 கிலோமீட்டர் ஆழத்தில் ஏற்பட்டதாகவும், ஆர்ஜென்டினாவின் உஷுவாயா நகரிலிருந்து 700 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் நிகழ்ந்ததாகவும் பதிவாகியுள்ளது.

7.5 magnitude earthquake

A powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake has struck South America, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake struck in the Drake Passage, which connects the southern tip of South America with Antarctica, on Sunday (22).

The quake was recorded at a depth of 10.8 kilometers and was located 700 kilometers from the city of Ushuaia, Argentina.

The Chilean Navy’s Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service had issued a tsunami warning for the Chilean Antarctic Territory.

However, the US Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that there was no tsunami threat from the earthquake.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake.

However, people in coastal areas in the Magallanes region of Chile were evacuated to higher ground as a precaution.
