Bus Fares Can Be Paid Using Bank Cards

A system allowing passengers to pay bus fares using bank cards will be launched from next Monday.

This initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Highways under the technical guidance of the Ministry of Digital Economy, and it will begin at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center.

In the first phase, the project will be introduced on about 20 bus routes, including routes connecting three provinces.

Accordingly, passengers traveling on buses heading towards Galle, Matara, and Badulla will be able to use this digital payment method.

This measure is expected to help passengers, especially in situations involving balance refunds and other related issues.
