Data collection scam on social media claiming to provide relief

The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has announced that several misleading messages are circulating on social media, claiming to collect personal information from people affected by Cyclone Ditva under the pretext of providing relief assistance.

According to the Ministry, all official data collection for disaster relief is carried out properly through the designated field officers and Grama Niladharis attached to District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats.

Therefore, the Ministry urges the public not to be deceived by such fake messages, and to avoid sharing their personal information with unauthorized individuals.

The Ministry further stated that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in such fraudulent activities.
