தெருநாய்களின் எண்ணிக்கை உயர்வு

இலங்கையில் தெரு நாய்களின் எண்ணிக்கை Increase in the Number of Stray Dogs அபாயகரமாக உயர்வடைந்துள்ளதாக இலங்கை விலங்குகள் நலச்சங்கம் எச்சரித்துள்ளது.

இதன்படி, தெரு நாய்களின் எண்ணிக்கை இரண்டு மில்லியன் முதல் மூன்று மில்லியன் வரை அதிகரித்துள்ளதாக அந்தச் சங்கம் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளது.

இந்த அபரிமிதமான அதிகரிப்பால், ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் சுமார் 250,000 தெரு நாய்க்கடி சம்பவங்கள் பதிவாவதாகச் சுட்டிக்காட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது.

கண்டியில் இடம்பெற்ற ஊடகவியலாளர் சந்திப்பில் கருத்துரைக்கும் போது, விலங்கு நலன் மூலம் சமூகப் பாதுகாப்பிற்கான கண்டிச் சங்கத்தின் செயலாளர் சம்பா பெர்னாண்டோ இந்த விடயத்தைத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

அத்துடன், பெண் நாய்கள் ஆண்டுக்கு இரண்டு முறை குட்டி ஈனுவதால், தற்போது இலங்கையில் ஒவ்வொரு எட்டு மனிதர்களுக்கும் ஒரு தெரு நாய் என்ற சதவீதத்தில், அதன் எண்ணிக்கை உயர்ந்துள்ளதாக அவர் சுட்டிக்காட்டியுள்ளார்.

Increase in the Number of Stray Dogs

The Sri Lanka Animal Welfare Association has warned that the number of stray dogs in the country has risen to alarming levels.

According to the association, the stray dog population has increased to between two and three million.

Due to this rapid rise, around 250,000 dog bite incidents are reported each year.

Speaking at a press conference held in Kandy, the Secretary of the Kandy Association for Social Protection through Animal Welfare, Sampa Fernando, revealed this information.

He further pointed out that since female dogs give birth twice a year, the current ratio in Sri Lanka is approximately one stray dog for every eight people.
