Modern Buses for People with Special Needs விசேட தேவையுடையவர்கள், இலகுவாகப் பயன்படுத்தக்கூடிய வசதிகளுடன் கூடிய 10 புதிய நவீன பேருந்துகளை சேவையில் ஈடுபடுத்துவதற்கு அரசாங்கம் தீர்மானித்துள்ளது.
‘கிளீன் ஸ்ரீலங்கா’ திட்டத்தின் கீழ் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள நிதியைப் பயன்படுத்தி இதற்கான முன்னோடித் திட்டமாக நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்படவுள்ளது.
இதற்கமைய, 10 பேருந்துகளைக் கொள்வனவு செய்வதற்கான நடவடிக்கைகள் நிறைவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளதுடன், எதிர்வரும் 15ஆம் திகதி குறித்த பேருந்துகள் நாட்டை வந்தடையவுள்ளன.
இந்த புதிய பேருந்துகளில் விசேட தேவையுடையோர் மற்றும் முதியவர்கள் இலகுவாக ஏறி இறங்கும் வசதிக்காக தாழ்வான மிதிபலகை மற்றும் முழுமையான குளிரூட்டப்பட்ட வசதி, டிஜிட்டல் உட்கட்டமைப்பு வசதிகளும் உள்ளடக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
எனினும், இந்தப் பேருந்துகளை இயக்குவதற்கும் பராமரிப்பதற்கும்; தேவையான பௌதீக மற்றும் டிஜிட்டல் உட்கட்டமைப்பு வசதிகளை வழங்க இலங்கை போக்குவரத்து சபைக்கு இயலுமை இல்லை என்பது தெரியவந்துள்ளது.
இந்தநிலையில், இலங்கை போக்குவரத்து சபையின் கீழ் ஸ்தாபிக்கப்பட்ட லங்கா மெட்ரோ ட்ரான்சிட் என்ற தனியார் நிறுவனத்திடம் இந்த 10 பேருந்துகளையும் ஒப்படைக்கத் தீர்மானிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Modern Buses for People with Special Needs
The government has decided to introduce 10 new modern buses equipped with user-friendly facilities for people with special needs.
This initiative will be implemented as a pilot project using funds allocated under the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme.
Accordingly, the procurement process for the 10 buses has been completed, and the buses are scheduled to arrive in the country on the 15th of this month.
These new buses are fitted with low-floor boarding systems to make it easier for people with special needs and senior citizens to get on and off. They are also fully air-conditioned and equipped with digital infrastructure facilities.
However, it has been revealed that the Sri Lanka Transport Board does not have the capacity to provide the necessary physical and digital infrastructure required to operate and maintain these buses.
Under these circumstances, it has been decided to hand over the operation of the 10 buses to Lanka Metro Transit, a private company established under the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
