டெங்கு கட்டுப்பாட்டு தேசிய பிரிவு (National Dengue Control Unit) தெரிவித்துள்ளதன்படி, பிப்ரவரி மாதத்தின் முதல் நான்கு நாட்களில் மட்டுமே 419 டெங்கு நோய்த்தொற்று பதிவாகியுள்ளது.
2025 ஆம் ஆண்டில் இலங்கையில் இரண்டு டெங்கு தொடர்பான மரணங்கள் பதிவாகியுள்ளன, மேலும் பிப்ரவரி 3 ஆம் தேதியுடன் மொத்த டெங்கு நோய்த்தொற்று எண்ணிக்கை 5,362 ஆக உயர்ந்துள்ளது.
மேல் மாகாணம் மிக அதிகமாக பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக காணப்படுகிறது, மொத்த நோய்த்தொற்றுகளில் பாதியிலுமே (2,398) அது இடம்பிடித்துள்ளது. அதனை தொடர்ந்து தென் மாகாணம் (667) மற்றும் கிழக்கு மாகாணம் (604) அதிக பாதிப்படைந்துள்ளன.
மாவட்டங்களை கருத்தில் கொண்டால், கொழும்பு மாவட்டம் 719 தொற்றுகளுடன் முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது. அதனை தொடர்ந்து கொழும்பு நகரசபை (CMC) பகுதி 651 தொற்றுகளுடன் இரண்டாவது இடத்தில் உள்ளது. அதிகளவில் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட மற்ற மாவட்டங்களில் கம்பஹா (617) மற்றும் களுத்துறை (435) அடங்கும். இதற்கிடையில், கிளிநொச்சி மற்றும் முல்லைத்தீவு போன்ற சில மாவட்டங்களில் மிகக் குறைந்த தொற்றுகள் பதிவாகியுள்ளன.
மேலும், 2025 ஆம் ஆண்டிற்காக 16 அதிக ஆபத்தான MOH பிரதேசங்களை அதிகாரிகள் அடையாளம் கண்டுள்ளனர்.
Over 400 Dengue Cases Reported in First Four Days of February
The National Dengue Control Unit has reported that Sri Lanka recorded 419 dengue cases in just the first four days of February 2025, signaling a worrying rise in infections.
So far, 5,362 dengue cases have been confirmed in the country this year, with two dengue-related deaths already reported. Health authorities are on high alert as dengue cases continue to surge, especially with the onset of the monsoon season, which creates ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes.
Most Affected Areas
The Western Province remains the hardest hit, contributing to nearly half of the total cases (2,398). The Southern Province (667) and Eastern Province (604) also show high infection rates, raising concerns among health officials.
Among districts, Colombo leads with 719 cases, followed closely by the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) area with 651 cases. Other districts with high caseloads include Gampaha (617) and Kalutara (435). However, some districts, such as Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu, have reported minimal cases.
High-Risk Areas Identified
The Ministry of Health has identified 16 high-risk MOH areas where dengue cases are expected to rise further. These areas will receive special monitoring and control measures, including intensified fogging operations, mosquito eradication programs, and community awareness campaigns.
Authorities Urge Public Cooperation
Health officials are urging the public to take preventive measures, such as eliminating mosquito breeding sites, covering water containers, and using mosquito repellents. Dengue prevention programs are being ramped up, with inspection teams deployed to conduct household and public area checks.
With the increasing number of cases, hospitals have also been instructed to prepare for a potential rise in severe dengue cases, ensuring adequate medical supplies and patient care facilities.
Health experts warn that the coming weeks will be crucial in controlling the spread, and public cooperation is essential in minimizing the outbreak.
