Tools for Weather Forecasting இலங்கையின் கடும் வானிலை முன்னறிவிப்புத் திறனை மேம்படுத்துவதற்காக, புத்தளத்தில் அதிநவீன டொப்ளர் ரேடார் (Doppler radar) கட்டமைப்பை நிறுவும் பணிகள் ஏற்கனவே ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக அமைச்சரவைப் பேச்சாளர் அமைச்சர் நலிந்த ஜயதிஸ்ஸ தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
இலங்கை அரசாங்கம் இந்த டொப்ளர் ரேடாரை ஜப்பானிய அரசாங்கத்தின் ஆதரவுடன் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளத் திட்டமிட்டுள்ளது.
இந்த ரேடார் கட்டமைப்பு 2027 ஆம் ஆண்டளவில் முழுமையாகச் செயற்பாட்டுக்கு வரும் என எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.
இந்தத் திட்டம் வானிலை ஆய்வுத் திணைக்களத்தின் ஒரு முக்கிய மேம்படுத்தலாகக் கருதப்படுவதுடன், இதனுடன் மேலதிக அத்தியாவசிய உபகரணங்களும் வழங்கப்படும்.
இது 2017 ஆம் ஆண்டு கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட டொப்ளர் ரேடார் அல்ல. முற்றிலும் புதியதொரு கட்டமைப்பாகும்.
நாட்டில் இரண்டு ரேடார் கட்டமைப்புகள் இருப்பது, வானிலை தகவல்களை அதிக துல்லியத்துடன் வழங்க உதவும் என அமைச்சர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.
இந்தத் திட்டம் வெறும் வானிலை முன்னறிவிப்புடன் மாத்திரம் நின்றுவிடாமல், மக்களின் உயிர்களைப் பாதுகாப்பதையும் நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது எனவும் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

Sri Lanka Introduces New Tools for Weather Forecasting
To enhance its severe weather forecasting capabilities, Sri Lanka has begun installing a state-of-the-art Doppler radar system in Puttalam, according to Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.
The Sri Lankan government plans to acquire this Doppler radar with the support of the Japanese government.
The radar system is expected to be fully operational by 2027.
This project is considered a significant upgrade for the Meteorological Department, and it will also include the provision of additional essential equipment.
It is not the Doppler radar introduced in 2017; this is an entirely new installation.
With two radar systems now in the country, weather data can be delivered with greater accuracy, the minister noted.
He further emphasized that the project is not only aimed at improving weather forecasts but also at safeguarding the lives of the people.
