நுவரெலியா விசேட பொருளாதார மத்திய நிலையத்தில் கடந்த சில நாட்களாக மரக்கறிகளின் விலை குறைவடைந்துள்ளதாக தெரிவிக்கப்படுகிறது.
நாளாந்தம் கிடைக்கும் மரக்கறிகளின் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகரித்ததன் காரணமாக மரக்கறிகளின் மொத்த விலை குறைவடைந்துள்ளதாக, விவசாயிகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றனர்.
இதனால் விற்பனை குறைந்துள்ளது எனவும் தேங்கி அழுகும் மரக்கறிகள் குப்பையில் கொட்டப்படுவதாகவும் அவர்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றனர்.
இதில் தக்காளி, லீக்ஸ், கத்தரிக்காய், வெள்ளரிக்காய், கோவா, முள்ளங்கி, பீட்ரூட், கறி மிளகாய், பச்சை மிளகாய் கரட், போஞ்சி, ஆகியவற்றின் விலை வெகுவாக குறைவடைந்துள்ளதாக வியாபாரிகள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.
அத்துடன் நுவரெலியா விசேட பொருளாதார மத்திய நிலையத்தின் மரக்கறி விற்பனை நிலையங்களில் பாவனைக்குதவாத அழுகிய மரக்கறிகள் வர்த்தக நிலையங்களுக்கு முன் சேர்த்து வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள நிலையில் அவற்றை அப்புறப்படுத்த முடியாது, நகரசபையின் ஊழியர்கள் உள்ளடங்கலாகப் பலரும் பாரிய சிரமங்களுக்கு உள்ளாகியுள்ளதாக எமது பிராந்திய செய்தியாளர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

Vegetables Being Used as Fodder for Livestock
It has been reported that the prices of vegetables at the Nuwara Eliya Special Economic Center have dropped over the past few days.
According to farmers, the wholesale prices of vegetables have decreased due to the increase in the daily supply of vegetables.
As a result, sales have declined, and unsold vegetables are being discarded as waste.
Traders stated that the prices of tomatoes, leeks, brinjals (eggplants), cucumbers, cabbage, radish, beetroot, capsicum, green chilies, carrots, and beans have significantly decreased.
In addition, a large quantity of spoiled or unsellable vegetables has accumulated in front of the stalls at the Nuwara Eliya Special Economic Center. The city council workers and traders have reportedly faced severe difficulties in disposing of them, according to our regional correspondent.
It has also been observed that during the mornings, some livestock — including horses — feed on these discarded vegetables.
Farmers engaged in vegetable cultivation said that due to the fall in market prices, they have suffered heavy financial losses.
