The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning that strong winds are likely to occur across several parts of the country from 4 p.m. today for the next 36 hours.

Earlier, it was predicted that the low-pressure area prevailing over the southeastern Bay of Bengal could intensify into a pressure zone.

Accordingly, strong winds with speeds ranging from 50 to 60 km/h are expected intermittently in the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Northern, North Central, and North Western provinces, and in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts.
