A cyclonic circulation originating in the Bay of Bengal, southeast of Sri Lanka, has drifted west-northwestward and is presently situated south of the island.
Concurrently, atmospheric instability is evident in the southern regions of Sri Lanka.
As a consequence, the rainfall presently affecting numerous parts of the country is anticipated to persist until the 19th.
A gradual diminution of rainfall is expected in the Northern Province commencing from tomorrow night (18th December, 2025).
Nevertheless, there remains a likelihood of rainfall in the Eastern Uva, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Western provinces until the 19th.

The Central, Uva, and Sabaragamuwa provinces are forecasted to receive intermittent heavy rainfall from today (17th December, 2025) through the 19th.
Hence, the public must remain vigilant regarding the potential risk of landslides associated with intense precipitation in the districts of Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Matale, and Kegalle.

Furthermore, the cold spell that has persisted over the past few days is expected to intensify once again from tomorrow (19th December, 2025), and this cold weather is forecast to continue until the 26th.
